Kipling 100 Pen Case & Mini Haul
Hey all! 🙂
I’ve been in the planner community for almost two years now, and one thing I’ve been seeing repeatedly in that time is the Kipling 100 pen case. I didn’t see the big deal at first, and also did not think of Kipling as being a terribly cute brand, but like with most things I started changing my mind as time passed.
I was definitely not about to pay the $40 or so MSRP for one, though, and didn’t even feel that ecstatic about paying $20 for one from either Marshall’s or TJ Maxx, not knowing if I’d even like the thing.
Well, recently I found myself in Marshall’s, eyeing some crossbody bags and all of a sudden I was face-to-face with this beauty! There were only two on the shelf, and both were red. I don’t mind red – I mean, it’s not pink, y’know – but red is a very striking color and when I saw it was marked down to $16, it was a wrap!
In my pictures the case leans very orangey-red, but it’s actually a little more muted than that. It’s almost a blood red.
Here are my Papermate Flair pens in the flap section. There are 12 pen loops there, and as you can see I was only able to fit in 10 pens! These loops are definitely meant for some kind of skinny pen, which I personally haven’t found yet. The other side features 14 pen loops.
Here’s the big bottom portion! I just haphazardly threw in all the rest of my newer pens because fuck organization, basically LOL. I even threw in the Post-Its I got, just because I was lazy and didn’t want to have to keep getting up for things.
There were roughly 25 pens in there and I didn’t get the feeling that I’d be fitting 60 more. However, every review I’ve seen of these cases, all the owners say the same – no way are 100 pens going in. I don’t care, honestly. I don’t even have 100 pens that I’d want to take around with me all the time!
So, the reason I decided to get this is because I’ve been using several different pens when I’m sitting down doing my planning, but I don’t always plan at my computer desk. Sometimes (okay, a lot of the time) I’m in bed and it annoys the crap out of me if I forgot the Red pen and have to get up and grab it, only to realize I need the Pink pen later on. UGH. From literally the moment I finished filling this case ’til now I’m appreciating having this cutie by my side. This thing is sturdy and I don’t feel like I’ll have a hard time cleaning it when it inevitably catches dust. Plus the little gorilla charm is hecka cute. 🙂
So basically, I’m hooked! The heart print inside is super cute, and not something I’ve noticed in the interiors of other reviewers’ cases. I’m going to keep my eyes peeled for something pink because PINK, honestly. Yeah, I’m obsessed. I do know that MAMBI will be coming out with their own pen case at the end of October, but I’m not entirely sold on the colors, pricing or style. I’ll have to see them in person. As of now, I’m definitely favoring Kipling.
Around this time I also picked up my first Post-It notes, some tabs and some new pens. I’ve been using my Target Dollar Spot sticky notes for a while, but I have to admit that I’ve been wanting something stickier and a little more “businessy,” HAH. There’ve been a ton of sales at Office Depot, so I ended up grabbing a small cube, a larger cube, and a pack of loose pads. I’m planning to use the loose pads in planners/my purse, as I also have a Post-It dispenser now, too…ugh, why does paper have this much control over me?!
Anyway! I got some tabs to mark pages in my various notebooks. Pretty simple. I believe they’re writable, too.
I’ve also been 1000% obsessed with the TŪL line of pens and accessories. I found the limited Edition Pearl ballpoint pens at my favorite Office Depot a while back and immediately bought two packs. I’m a sucker for rose gold, point-blank-period. If it’s rose gold, I’ll probably have my hands on it at some point. Pictured here, though, is actually a GEL pen. The only way I know to tell the difference (without writing) betwee the gels and ballpoints is the grip of the gel pen has dots on it! I’m seriously thinking about either buying a pack of just the gels or grabbing a couple golds to round out my collection. It’s crazy!
The other pens are rollerball gel pens, and to be honest…they suck. I don’t know if I got a bad pack or what, but the ink doesn’t run smooth and rollerballs just aren’t my faves, either. I would have returned them if I hadn’t hastily thrown away the packaging, but my dad likes pens so I’ve passed them on to him to see if he’ll like them! As of now I’m on the hunt for a pack of at least the red, green and blue needlepoint gels. I don’t even know if they exist, but if I find them I’ll surely report back! 🙂
I’m just gonna say this right now – I’ve been hauling like CRAZY and have a ton of shit I want to post my first impressions/reviews of for you guys! I’m so excited to be able to buy stationery and planner stuff again, honestly, and just want to share my insanity with people who’ll get it! Not to mention, MAMBI and Michael’s are coming out with new planners and goodies that I absolutely want to get a look at and have a chat about!
‘Til next time,
